In my previous blogpost titled Dealing with labels I’ve written about basics of how labels can be abused to control someone, and how labels that exist within us as trigger points can control us. This time I will be expanding on how labels exist within us, within our thoughts and how we exist within labels within our own minds. Which could be seen as rather ‘neutral’ area, that is not really harmful yet it’s actually where consequence originate form. I will showing here how those labels that exist within us as our thoughts that we take for granted in everyday life, and we base our understanding on them, without actually ever questioning them, or really having a look on what our understanding is based.
Those labels as thoughts are the source of where our vulnerability to ‘labeling’ comes from, and they have massive consequence on every area of life, as they are the controlling forces existing within us, that can be manipulated in specific ways and through which we derive our idea/feeling that we have control, and that we can control others. Those ‘labels’ existing as thoughts, that are trigger points for reactive bahaviour of automated response patterns is the mind control that gives us the idea that we are in charge, but it is in fact where the real mind control is operating, as those labels as thoughts that are triggers for our response patterns/behaviour are in fact the ‘strings’ through which we act in pre-programmed, already defined ways. Because those labels exist within us as ‘set’ ways/modes of thinking, behavioural response to a specific impulse.
Therefore for instance (as an example to what I am referring to) when you hear about god – you have certain accepted ‘labels’ within you as thoughts/ideas that you will make you think about god a certain way, or react to hearing/thinking this word in a certain specific way. The same for instance with the word politics – you will also have a certain reaction, way of thinking about what politics are – without actually going into a 1+1=2 reasoning that is mathematical in itself, with considering what is being spoken. You will not approach those reasonably, because such ‘labels’, as ways we see certain things, are distorting our understanding about all kinds of things, phenomenons, manifestations and how they work.
You can try to test that especially with words that create an emotional reaction within you. If you speak, think about or write about that word – you will start to see things that you have subconsciously attached to this words. And it will be all sorts of mind components like memories, pictures, thoughts, words, emotions and feelings. And within that you can have a look at all that you’ve attached subconsciously to a word – and what I suggest as a really cool way to explore what labels exist within you that you accept unconsciously without even being aware of that – write all that out (that’s helpful, especially when a word is something you react to, and in having an influence on your life). Meaning, write the word out, and then what you see that you’ve associated with the word in your head. You will see how all those mind components (as thoughts, feelings, pictures, memories etc.) can distort our definitions of words, and turns them into labels through which we can be controlled, and that control us. If you’re interested into taking some more time into looking at labels, thoughts and words that control us and through which we are controlled checkout Desteni. There’s a lot of material and support there available on how to learn to deprogram and reprogram such points within self, to become an effective being through self-honesty, self-forgiveness, and self-dedication.

You should listen to a song called ‘Labels’ by an English punk band called Subhumans. The songs lyricist, Dick Lucas, came to almost the same conclusion thirty years ago.
This line grabbed my attention: “Before we share opinions must we keep them undercover?”. As it’s saying how we fear being labeled by others — and because of that, we never openly and directly speak up for what we stand for really. Ending up as a part of a ‘nameless crowd’ trying to act like everyone else out of fear of being labeled.
Cool and relevant lyrics about the phenomenon of labels — thanks for sharing.
